• Han er den yngste av tre barn.
• Han ble oppdaget første året på high school, på gaten foran skolen.
• Han reiste alene til Seoul, noe han har sagt ble hans styrke.
• Han begynte på Seoul Arts High School, men sluttet like etterpå for å fokusere på TV aktiviteter. Han tok senere op eksamen og begynte på universitetet. 
• Han ble også scouted som kpop idol, og lærte å synge, før han debuterte som skuespiller. 
• Artistnavnet Yoo Ah In tok han, fordi hans fødenavn var for tungt og gammeldags. Han valgte Ah In, fordi det minnet om det tyske ordet for en, ein. 
• Han har spilt inn flere reklamefilmer. 
• Han startet som skuespiller, uten å helt vite hva han egentlig gikk til. Etter suksessen han opplevde i starten, tok han et par års pause for å kjenne etter om han var motivert nok til å fortsette. 
• Hans store gjennombrudd var Sungkyunkwan Scandal. 
• Filmen Burning, ga han internasjonal anerkjennelse, da den ble vist i Cannes 
• Han er både kreativ regissør og kunsthandler, i tillegg til jobbensom skuespiller. 
• Han er kjent for å spille et vidt spekter av roller, og han spiller ofte dynamiske karakterer som opplever stor, personlig vekst. 
• -Han er ikke redd for å gå ut med sine politiske- og sosiale medier, og engasjerer seg i sosial og kunstnerisk aktivisme. Gjennom galleriet Studio Concrete, støtter han blant annet LGBT samfunnet, liberale feminister, Korean Childhood Leukemia Foundation, and andre minoritetsgrupper. Personlig har han støttet mange saker, spesielt organisasjoner som hjelper barn, kjemper mot netthets og brystkreft. 
• Han ble fritatt fra militæret pga helse. I 2015 ble han diagnostisert med beinsvulst. Denne er ikke farlig, og det er ingen fare for spredning. Han fikk også revet over skuldermusklene under innspillingen av actionfilmene Tough as Iron og Veteran.
• Våren 2023 ble han arrestert for bruk av en rekke narkotiske stoffer siden 2021. 3. september 2024 ble han dømt til 1 år i fengsel. Han slapp ut 18. februar 2025. 
  
• I juli 2024 ble han anmeldt for voldtekt av en 30 år gammel mann. Saken ble henlagt, da det ikke fantes bevis.
