• Han vokste opp i en musikalsk familie. Faren hans, Cho Kyung Soo, er sanger. Hans søster, Cho Seo Yeon, er en musikalartist. Han drømte selv om å spille musikaler fra han var ganske ung.
• På universitet ble han overtalt til å dra på audition for filmen Chunhyang, og han fikk rollen av tusen andre. Chunhyang var den første koreanske filmen som ble vist innenfor konkurransen i Cannes, selv om den ikke ble en suksess i hjemlandet. 
• Han debuterte på musikalscenen etter hans filmdebut. 
• Han fikk sitt gjennombrudd i filmen Marathon, hvor han spilte en autist som kun fant ved å løpe. Han fortsatte samtidig å følge en stadig voksende karriere på musikalscenen, og fikk blant annet gode kritikker for Hedwig and the Angry Inch og Jekyll and Hyde. 
• I 2006 spilte han i Love Phobia med sin daværende kjæreste, Kang Hye Jung. 
• Etter å ha fullført militærtjenesten, sto han igjen på scenen i Jekyll and Hyde i 2010, stykket som var med å gjøre han til en stjerne i 2004. Men det var ikke uten kontrovers, da det ble kjent at lønnen hans var den høyeste for en musikalartist noensinne. Det ble mye diskusjon om det var riktig, mens enkelte argumenterte at det var fortjent og at man håpet at han skulle hjelpe til med å blåse liv i en ganske død musikalindustri. Det klarte han, og etterspørselen etter billetter var så stor at billettsalget kollapset etter 15 minutter og alle forestillingene Cho Seung Woo skulle være med i ble utsolgt. 
• Da Joo Ji Hoon måtte trekke seg 2 uker før premieren på stykket Doctor Zhivago, på grunn av problemer med stemmebåndet, steppet Cho Seung Woo inn og gjorde det til en suksess.
